Conatus – Journal of Philosophy is firmly committed to the unrestricted dissemination of scholarly knowledge and to the principles of transparency, accessibility, and long-term preservation in academic publishing. The Journal operates in accordance with internationally recognised standards for open-access publishing and provides immediate and permanent open access to all published content.


I. Article submission, processing, and publication charges

The journal does not levy article processing charges (APCs), submission fees, publication fees, or any other form of cost to authors. All editorial and publishing services are provided entirely free of charge.

Open access to all published content is provided immediately and permanently without subscription fees or financial barriers, ensuring that both the publication and dissemination of scholarly work in Conatus – Journal of Philosophy remain fully accessible to authors, readers, researchers, and institutions worldwide.


II. Rights and permissions

Authors retain full copyright to their work and grant the journal the right of first publication.

Authors may reuse, distribute, reproduce, archive, or republish their work in any medium or format, provided that the original publication in Conatus – Journal of Philosophy is properly acknowledged.

Authors may additionally:

  • Enter separate, non-exclusive agreements for the distribution or republication of the published work (for example in edited volumes, institutional repositories, or academic platforms).
  • Share and disseminate submitted, accepted, and published versions of their work through personal webpages, institutional repositories, and scholarly networks.
  • Deposit underlying research materials or datasets in appropriate repositories in accordance with disciplinary standards and institutional requirements.

III. Open access policy

Conatus – Journal of Philosophy is a biannual, diamond open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal. All content is made openly and permanently accessible immediately upon publication without subscription charges, embargoes, or access restrictions.

The Journal follows the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), according to which users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to, and otherwise use published material for any lawful purpose without prior permission from the publisher or the author, subject to the applicable licensing terms.

The Journal’s open-access policy is grounded in its commitment to promoting the free circulation of philosophical research, facilitating scholarly exchange, and encouraging international engagement in philosophical dialogue and interdisciplinary inquiry.

As a diamond open-access journal:

  • Authors publish without fees or publication charges.
  • Readers and institutions access all content without subscription costs.
  • Published research is made immediately available online upon publication.
  • No embargo period applies to the dissemination or archiving of published material.

Authors are encouraged to deposit published articles, accepted manuscripts, and related research materials in institutional and/or subject repositories in order to support the visibility, dissemination, accessibility, and preservation of scholarly research.


IV. Copyright and licensing

Unless otherwise stated, all articles published in Conatus – Journal of Philosophy are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Under this license, users may share, reproduce, distribute, and adapt the published material for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and to the Journal.

The Version of Record (VoR) published by the Journal constitutes the authoritative final version of the scholarly work.

The license permits:

  • Non-commercial reuse and redistribution.
  • Adaptation and reproduction with appropriate attribution.
  • Deposit and preservation in repositories and archival systems.
  • Scholarly and educational dissemination without additional permission requirements.

No additional legal or technical restrictions are imposed beyond those defined by the Creative Commons license terms.


V. Archiving, preservation, metadata, and discoverability

The Journal is published through the National Documentation Center (EKT), which provides the digital publishing infrastructure and preservation services supporting the long-term accessibility and integrity of the scholarly record.

Publishing and preservation services include:

  • Open Journal Systems (OJS) publishing infrastructure.
  • DOI registration and metadata dissemination.
  • Long-term digital preservation through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).
  • Permanent online hosting and archiving services.
  • Integration with scholarly indexing and abstracting services.

The Journal provides standardized scholarly metadata for all published content, including persistent identifiers, licensing metadata, and indexing metadata, in order to support discoverability, interoperability, citation tracking, long-term accessibility, and integration with international scholarly databases and indexing systems.


VI. Deposit and self-archiving policy

Authors may self-archive all versions of their work, including:

  • Submitted manuscripts (preprints),
  • Accepted manuscripts (author accepted manuscripts),
  • Published versions (Version of Record).

No embargo period applies to self-archiving or repository deposit.

Authors are encouraged to deposit their work in:

  • Institutional repositories,
  • Subject repositories,
  • National and international open-access repositories,
  • Personal academic webpages,
  • Non-commercial scholarly communication platforms.

The Journal supports the widest possible dissemination and preservation of scholarly research in accordance with the principles of open science and responsible academic publishing.
